In order to better help tenth to twelfth grade understand and apply the concept of market research, it is a great honor for WUIS students to come to Sumika Electronic Materials Technology (Wuxi) Co., LTD. (SEMW) and IKEA for a series of visits and studies.
SEMW (sumitomo chemical co., LTD was founded in 1913), as a leading integrated chemical company in Japan, it is also one of Japan’s large chemical companies, production include base chemicals, petrochemicals, fine chemicals, electronic information products, agricultural chemicals, and a variety of chemical products, pharmaceutical products and domestic customers to China and Japan, South Korea and other countries customers with all kinds of high-quality information electronic devices. The main products are optical multifunctional film (polarizing film), diffusion plate (used for LIQUID crystal display screen), etc., mainly for the world-famous liquid crystal panel manufacturers supply.
IKEA, founded in 1943, has become the world’s largest furniture and home products business, sales mainly include seat/sofa series, office supplies, bedroom series, kitchen series, lighting series, textiles, cooking series, house storage series, children’s products and other products about 10,000 products.
It can be said that both of these two enterprises have made certain achievements in their fields, and the success of the enterprise is not only due to its high-quality products, but also because of its business model, marketing strategy and other comprehensive achievements of the current SEMW and IKEA. And that’s where we want to learn this time, how they know their customers, how they market, how they distribute their products, and so on.
Through the SEMW staff’s speech, students learned about the company’s development history, main product information and operation mode. The product manager of SEMW also took the students on a field tour of the company’s product line and introduced the close connection between each step-in detail. How to use machines and people to turn obscure materials into products that can be used in consumers’ daily lives. The students visited and understood with curiosity, and also actively asked questions to SEMW staff to solve their doubts. Through the field study in SEMW, I believe that students will be able to relate the knowledge learned from books to real life, and master the knowledge of business operation and other aspects more clearly.
During the break, students visited the rest room of SEMW company to learn how to relieve stress and relax themselves during the busy and stressful work. At the same time, we also relaxed in the canteen and billiards room, and had a happy lunch break, which was also a relaxing time for everyone on this learning trip.
In the afternoon, we went to IKEA to learn about a completely different business model than SEMW. In IKEA, while selecting products, students learned three advantages for IKEA’s great success — clear product positioning, attractive product price and considerate after-sales service. The purpose of this trip is to enjoy food and choose goods while learning knowledge.
I am very grateful that this time can allow us to have such an experience, to understand the operation mode of different companies, and to record the investigation at any time. The whole journey is full of fun, but also full of surprises. We also learned a lot about these companies. r A day goes by quickly, but every little bit of the journey remains in our hearts, which can be said to be a harvest of happiness and knowledge.
