This is the kind of contact the homeroom teachers have with children to support different personalities and accompany their growth every day. Some children are introverted and quiet, some children are enthusiastic and optimistic, some children are mischievous and some like to be challenged.
The homeroom teacher often neglects his or her own personal needs and expectations while trying to find ways to educate and communicate with children. The homeroom teacher will encounter a lot of incomprehension and confusion within himself or herself, but hopes to give themselves an opportunity to stay calm and examine their inner thoughts, release their own emotions, share their own needs, and be supported by others.
At the end of October, Ms. Yu Chen, the psychology counsellor in SUIS Qingpu, led the homeroom teachers to what was called the “Heart ‘Clear’ Gas Station” and shared a vivid and interesting experience about psychology with the homeroom teachers.
Ms. Yu promoted communication through the use of ice-breaker games – one such game was making the first cup of milk tea in late autumn.
After this game, she discussed the psychological needs and feelings behind the wish to give and receive milk tea among teachers.
The teachers’ response said that sometimes they drink milk tea for more than enjoyment; milk tea may have become a habit, a kind of ritual, a source of happiness, a way to reward and encourage themselves, a gesture to communicate with others or a way to relieve stress.
Indeed, in addition to milk tea, there are many kinds of gestures that can make us feel warm, happy, sweet, and relaxed. We can send out “milk tea” in a way to make others feel cared for, encouraged, blessed and thanked.
Finally, during this experience the teachers sent one another heartwarming gestures of encouragement, thanks, support and comfort. Teachers filled this cold autumn with warmth. Everyone’s stress was melted by laughter and moved by care! Let us lift this cup of “milk tea”, celebrate life and be productive while experiencing all kinds of “flavors”!
