In order to improve the communications between the school and the parents, help them get to know more about the curriculums and teaching methods, make sure we can help the kids to be better themselves by better home-school cooperation. We had held the Parents’ Meeting and Open Day.
On October 9th, Principal Sunny Huang, who was the host of the Parents’ Meeting introduced Principal Maxine Lu and Helen Liu, director of primary school to the parents. They had brilliant introductions of the main curriculum of whole school and the primary school.
After this, the subject teachers had their presentations more detail about their course features and teaching schedules. The class teachers introduced all the aspects of their students, which including their studying, school life, habits, civility, safety… All the teachers believe the students will get more progress because of the good cooperation of the school and the parents.
The parents’ open days of our primary department were on October 15th and 16th. Everyone is looking forward to it. The parents got to know their children’s performance and experienced the growth process of their children by watching their classes. And the children were so excited that they could go to school with their parents. They were trying hard to show their best to the parents.
Listen! There is a clear sound of reading coming form the classroom. The children are reciting the class rules rhythmically. They are attracted by the poem, sitting nicely, and they concentrate a lot. This is the charm of English: we don’t read mechanically, but understand it and repeat it based on understanding.
We can learn different kinds of funny riddles by singing the beautiful song ‘The Riddle Song’. During the learning from the simple riddle with only one sentence to the long one with six sentences, the children acquired how to solve the riddle successfully according to the clues they found. The children are so creative and intelligent that they have made their own riddles and they enjoyed a lot guessing each other’s riddles.
Reading, writing, re-telling and remembering: open day at SUIS Qingpu was full of interesting English activities! Parents had the opportunity to see classes in-action and with their children as they learned how to spell and decode; read for meaning; write real sentences; pick books for independent reading and structuring questions for clues as to motivation. SUIS parents received the authentic experience of daily learning in our ELA classes!
Look! Our kids are having ‘brain storm’ in the class, experiencing the charm of Chinese. Grade 1 students are chanting beautifully with their mouth, brain, and hands together, which lead them to be a broadcaster, a poet, a good handcrafter. And look! They are pretending to be a little guide by introducing the wonderful sight of Huangshan. They are trying to be a researcher by drawing the trip route inside the cow’s belly. They are pretending to be a large cricket and sharing the house designing. The eagerly eyes, the smiley faces and the pleasant reading voice composed of those wonderful moments in the Chinese classes.
As for math lesson, bilingual teachers in Grade 1 designed a lot of classroom activities which encourages our kids to be a good observer and thinker, and combined the individual tasks with co-operational tasks, hence, our kids enjoyed every lesson and also being developed in many ways. Math teachers in Grade 2 guided our kid to observe the objects indifferent angles. Look, they are trying to make 3D graphics with blocks according to the plain graphic, which develops their observing ability and space imaging ability. Teachers in high grades adopted students-centered teaching method, which allowed students to share their own opinions. By engaging and watching such good lessons, our students gained a lot of knowledges, and our parents realized how to learn math effectively.
In music class, students and their parents become the arrangers. They create their own bars of musical tune. They feel the charm of rhythm. They find the melody of Beethoven from the xylophones and co-play the bitonal.
In art classroom, students design their works passionately. They play their imagination and creativity. How interesting are the art classes!
In the gym, students try their best to participate in every activities. It shows the charm of P.E., participation, development and struggle.
Parents were deeply impressed by the flexible, diverse teaching methods and the educational concept of student-centered comprehensive development. It’s not just our children and teachers who focused on the classes. Look! Our parents listened very carefully and were completely attracted to the classes! From time to time, they smiled and smiled, and they couldn’t help but take photos of the unforgettable moments.
After class, parents exclaimed: “It is a great pleasure for children to learn in such fun and interesting classes. Thanks to the school for giving us the opportunity to return to the schooling era.”
Through the parents meeting and open day, parents have the opportunity to walk into the campus, enter the classroom, understand the school curriculum in a more comprehensive way, experience the children’s school life, and have a deeper understanding of the school. The two-way communication between school and home has formed a better educational synergy.
Inside and outside the classroom, we work together.
On the road of education, we walk side by side. Let our school and home work together to help our children grow up healthily!
