CHINA
The sudden outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic happened in China during the 2020 Spring Festival, bringing in fear and emotions of a disaster movie into reality. Since then, the hardworking, caring, and dedicated Chinese people have invested relentless efforts to fight the epidemic together. More than 40,000 doctors and nurses have volunteered to go to the frontline to fight against the COVID-19 virus. Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals were built within a couple of weeks to cope with the huge number of patients in Wuhan city. Medical resources, therapeutic hospital equipment, and livelihood supplies were continuously provided to support Hubei Province. The whole country took the initiative to observe quarantine with self- isolation at home to prevent and curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Once again, our motherland has shown the amplitude of her strength, grandeur, collaborative responsibility, and synergetic determination to the world.

After more than 40 days, the national’s disciplined and concerted effort is beginning to show signs of Covid-19’s epidemic recession: some people take off their masks and walk on the streets. Some people start to quietly dine together…However, safety and caution must prevail and irresponsible acts may still be an opportunity for the novel coronavirus to strike. As the school nurse, I hope you can find all the necessary preventive guidance and health advice in both online learning and fighting against the epidemic. I would like to share eight tips with you:
01、Do not go to densely populated places or festive gatherings.
02、Wear appropriate size face masks when going out and remind your family members to wear them. If taking public transport, wear face masks throughout the journey, avoid touching the vehicle items and wash your hands immediately after arriving home.
03、Wash hands frequently after coughing or sneezing, before preparing food, before eating, after using the toilet, after contact with pets, after going out and coming back, when hands are dirty; wash your hands with soap, rub repeatedly for more than 20 seconds, and rinse with warm water.
04、Do not eat in excess, avoid raw and cold food. Keep a healthy diet with balanced nutrition.
05、Exercise every day to improve self immunity. Keep regular hours without staying up too late.
06、Participate actively in keeping your house clean. The 84% disinfection solution can be used to disinfect and wipe the surface of furniture and articles at home, in order to kill germs and viruses. (75% alcohol is not recommended, as it has potential safety hazard.) Students could use the 84% disinfection solution only after parents have diluted it with water.
07、Open the windows for ventilation for about 2 or 3 times a day for at least 30 minutes each time, so as to keep the air fresh and flowing in the house.
08、Try to keep away from pets. Get into the habit of covering your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing ( sneeze in a tissue or on elbow) and wash your hands promptly.
I believe that as long as you can follow the above 8 tips, it will help prevent contact with the Covid-19 virus. Recently, the school clinic received the same question from many students “what should I do if I have a fever during the epidemic?”
1、It is common to have a fever during the flu season. Don’t be too nervous and relax. Please consult a doctor when necessary.
2、Adhere to the 8 tips above, drink enough water and take protective measures.
You can be an exemplary little soldier and fight against the epidemic by protecting yourself and your family. We are fighting together in this battle. Looking forward to meeting you at school as soon as possible!
