Dear students and teachers,I’m very glad to meet all of you at the start of the new semester. First, let’s warmly welcome the newstudents and new staff to join our great team!
At this, the very beginning of the new semester, we’d like to share some thoughts with you. The first one is “Unitedbut different, we move forward together”, which is just as our school nameindicates. We come from different countries, cities and families. We have different complexions, faces and speak diverse languages. We own disparate customs, habits and festivals. We hold different thoughts, opinions and values. However, just because of so many differences, we respect and appreciate each other. All the differences contribute to a colorful world with diversity and tolerance. Among our differences, however, we can find a lot in common. Forexample, we have the same choice—our school, WUIS. We also have the same educational pursuits, common motivation, and the same goals to move forward. Let us continue to beunited but different, hand in hand, to move forward toward another fabulous year!
As a member of WUIS, what represents you best? Obviously, is the combination of East and West. As Chinese, you should not forget where you are from, it’s the fertile Chineseland that has raised you. Therefore, learning Chinese traditional culture, and absorbing the nutrients of Chinese culture is every Chinese citizen’s responsibility. As a student from an international school and a future international citizen, you should build multiple knowledge structures, cultivatevarious skills, an international scope, tolerant abilities and diverse thinking methods. How can you develop all these skills and abilities? The answer could be “from your current learning, from various activity experiences, and from life reflection. Fortunately, our school has kept creating a diverse learning and working environment, and kept providing stages for the fusion of different cultures. I encourage all of you to be a smart person, making the most of resources, trying to be a better self, and thus becoming a satisfactory future citizen. The last words we are going to share are “Keep learning and thinking, set clear goals and make persistent efforts to realize them”.
School is a place full of learning vitality, and contention of different schools of thoughts. It is also a place to help you achieve future dreams. Everyday, you should ask yourself, “Have I learned today?” It’s more important to ask yourself “Have I thought ?”Learning to think is far more important than acquiring pure knowledge. In this material-life, highly-developed world, reading with a quiet mind is the most luxurious thing, because reading is not only about obtaining knowledge, but reading can release your mind, allow contention of thoughts, exert your imagination, and add life pleasure. Reading can also bring us tranquility and chances to think, which is not something that money can exchange for. What you have learned will help shape your personality. Therefore, we all need to equip ourselves with some book ideas, in order to own some strength ofcharacter.
If we compare WUIS to a book, every one of us is a word or sentence in this book. Everyone’s effort and action completes each chapter of WUIS. In the coming new semester, let’s accomplish another new chapter together. Last but not least, we wish everyone a happy and pleasant new semester. Study well, work well, and live well. Be a happy WUIS person!
