[Wuxi] The Best Project Award in the High School Division
In the recently concluded HackHarvard China Challenge (HHCC), our school’s student Esme and her team stood out among many exceptional participants nationwide with their solid technical foundation and keen insight into real-world issues, securing First Place and the Best Project Award in the High School Division! This event was not only a test of technical skill, but also a clash of creative minds. With this honor, the team has got the chance to the global finals at Harvard University. This autumn, they will represent the China region at Harvard’s main campus in Boston, competing alongside top global student innovators and demonstrating the inventive spirit of China’s youth on a international stage!
What is a “Hackathon“?A “Hackathon” (a portmanteau of “hack” and “marathon”) is an intense challenge that brings together developers and innovators.During HHCC, participants were required to collaborate and build continuously over 36 hours to submit a functional prototype. It challenged not only their technical foundation, but also their ability to adapt quickly, optimize system architecture, and solve practical problems under pressure.
Project Overview & ReflectionsOur winning project is a website designed to assist teachers in sex education. We observed a general neglect of sex education in China, along with a lack of dedicated technological tools for educators in this field. Two months ago, we formed a team to conduct discussions and research. Armed with this core idea, we came to HHCC aiming to turn our concept into a fully working prototype during the event. We were a team of only two—the smallest group at the entire competition—and only one of us had programming experience prior to the event. As a result, the challenge was formidable. Over the 36-hour sprint, we slept for less than six hours, relying entirely on our passion to complete the development, refine our build, and polish the presentation. Seeing our final result recognized by the judges was deeply moving. Moving forward, we hope to further refine our platform and deploy it for real-world use, making a meaningful contribution to sex education.
