Today (May 29), SUIS Gubei the Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2024 was held. About 500 graduates, parents, and teachers gathered to witness this solemn moment of gratitude and blessing.
Principal Speech

“Resilience and positivity.” These are the attributes that our brilliant learners possess, as aptly summarized by SUIS Gubei Principal, Mr. Walsh. Our esteemed G12 students have demonstrated remarkable perseverance and resilience in overcoming the numerous challenges posed by the rigorous IB Diploma programme, ultimately securing an impressive array of university offers from preeminent post-secondary institutions worldwide.

Our Chinese Principal, Mr. Liu, has also emphasized that the journey ahead will indeed be fraught with difficulties and obstacles. However, provided that our attention remains steadfastly fixed on the essence of humanity and the nuances of life, and assuming that our strides are resolute and our sights are set far ahead, we will indeed be capable of attaining our own exceptional and fulfilling existence.
HOG Speech

Mr. Hough and Ms. Li
We often have to overcome all sorts of challenges in order to reach our goals. These challenges can test our resilience and determination, but they are also opportunities for growth and learning. And actually sometimes, we need to revise our initial plans along the way or even change our goals entirely as our aspirations and circumstances can change over time. Absolutely. If you had asked me when I was the age you all are now to write down 100 things that I wanted to do in my lifetime, I can tell you that at that point in time, neither teacher nor China would have been on that list of goals or plans. And yet, here I am and being here is now part of my journey.
Now I was busy setting goals back in the 20thCentury before you were born, so let’s put things into a more recent context. Think now about the goals you all had just a few years ago, back in Grade 6. By the way, we have well kept these photos from Grade 6 and we’d be happy to share these with you to remind you of your big dreams back then. So, the mesage is, no matter your life journey is a linear or non-linear route, the important thing is to keep moving forward with the same sense of curiosity, adventure and resilience you’ve developed at SUIS Gubei, remaining open to new possibilities, and embracing the changes that come our way.

Student Speech

SUIS GB 2022-2023 head prefects,
Head Girl Ella Li, Head Boy Daniel Dong, Deputy Head Girl Ashling Walshe and Deputy Head Boy Jason Yang
And today, we stand at a crossroads. Behind us lie the familiar halls and classrooms, the echoes of laughter, and late-night sports games. Ahead stretches the vast, open road – a path we’ve spent years preparing to navigate. This accomplishment – this diploma we hold – is a testament to our resilience, our intellect, and the unwavering support from our teachers, family, and friends that surrounds us. Let us never forget the bonds that unite us as members of this graduating class, and we will forever be connected by the memories we have shared and the experiences that have shaped us.
IB exams, university offers, and saying goodbye to each other, all these events that seemed so overwhelming 7 years ago are all now coming to an end – the finale of our teenage years. But this finale is perfect because of all of you.
Today is a day to not just celebrate all the blood sweat and tears we have put into reaching where we are today but to look forward to our future paths that will take us around the world. If any of you become rich or famous one day, don’t forget your lovely peers or even this school – maybe one day one of you can donate enough money to buy a bigger campus.
And always remember Mr. Wade’s words of wisdom: Dream Big Set Goals Take Action.

Well-wishes, laughter, and emotional embraces spread across the graduating cohort after the ceremony was complete. Though our graduates will be pursuing higher education across the world, they will always be a part of the SUIS Gubei community and we hope that they look back fondly on the memories that were made in our familiar hallways. Our previous Head Boy and Head Girl also came to the stage to give speeches saying that gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.Congratulations to our 2023-2024 graduates on a magnificent job well-done and may fortune favour you all!
