On Friday afternoon of December 4th, primary and secondary homeroom teachers listened to the lecture “Effective Strategies for Class Management in the New Era” given by Hu Wenzhu, the most beautiful educator in Jiangsu Province. In a simple way and with a clear timeline of the school year, Ms. Hu shows how to implement high-standard homeroom teacher work.
With more than 30 years of experience as a homeroom teacher, Ms. Hu not only provides practical solutions to specific problems, but also shows us the real core spirit of being a homeroom teacher. “If the mountains don’t come over, the water will.” A short sentence makes the homeroom teachers more deeply aware of the importance of initiative in class management.
Ms. Jade, homeroom teacher of 8H1, mentioned, ‘Today, I have the honor to hear Ms. Hu’s experience as a homeroom teacher. Ms. Hu’s language is simple and plain, humorous, easy and elegant, admirable, and particularly precious and practical methods of class management and home-school communication are worthy of our learning. Here are a few points I’d like to share.
First, the teacher set rules and regulations at the first class and let the students remember homeroom teacher’s phone number, so the students understand the homeroom teacher is their backing forever. If they need any help, they can always call the homeroom teacher, which makes the student’s heart close to homeroom teacher. So in the future, in the implementation of management work, the child won’t reject the teacher management and education work because of strange fear or other psychological problems. In the first lesson, Ms. Hu asked the students to write down their shortcomings, then burn them up, bury them under the tree, leave the past behind, and greet the new semester with a brand new look. This method is also very inspiring. After all, life needs a sense of ritual. Second, I’m impressed with their common goal about “culture, consciousness, freedom, kindness”. Indeed, a person always has a certain requirement to oneself. Education is shaking one heart with another quietly. Only by driving the students’ inner request and appreciation, we can implement professional teaching. Third, Ms. Hu emphasized praise in public and tactful criticism in private. Every child has a strong self-esteem, they are often more fragile than adults and easy to be frustrated, therefore, find the bright spot of the child, constantly encourage praise them, promote their sense of honor and pride, so, the sense of achievement will certainly promote them to continue learning and progress! The virtuous cycle begins.”
Stimulate the students’ internal motivations, research the problem as a project, do not forget the original intention, we are all the best homeroom teachers!
