Philosophy for Children (P4C) has always been fondly loved by students at WUIS. In order to help parents better understand this course, we held a P4C curriculum presentation activity this afternoon, and meanwhile we opened our 1st P4C parents’ workshop of this semester.
1、After arrival, parents visited the curriculum exhibition area first and then wrote down their thoughts in the interaction stations.
2、Then, parents went to the grand theatre and participated in the curriculum presentation hosted by Ms. Carol, P4C coordinator of WUIS. Many parents said that they had a better and more comprehensive understanding of P4C after attending today’s activity.
3、To help parents experience this course at a closer distance, we opened our 1st P4C parents’ workshop later the same day, which was facilitated by Ms. Angel Lin, Principal of WUIS. During the workshop, teachers and parents completed several inquiry activities and had a chance to appreciate the unique beauty of P4C.
4、We will continue to carry out events like this to involve more parents in the future and we hope that everyone could enjoy the process of playing with different ideas.
Philosophy for children, abbreviated to P4C, was started by Professor Matthew Lipman in the 1970s and has now been put into practice in more than 60 countries and areas. It is a teaching strategy that can be applied to all subjects, aiming to develop students’ critical, creative, caring and collaborative thinking skills. It does not teach students to be philosophers or decision makers, but it can help them become human beings who are more considerate, reflective, caring and reasonable.
