On the first of September, SUIS Qingpu warmly welcomed its new and returning students at the Annual Opening Ceremony. Walking through the school gate, all eyes were drawn to the space doorway which represented the characteristics of knowledge, ability, character, emotion and healthy physique. They demonstrate the aim of cultivating students to be holistic, life-long learner.
The music teachers played wonderful music, two “astronauts” greeted the children enthusiastically, the colorful human-shaped standing signs practically invited the children to take photos, and the prepared gifts made the children excited… These wonderful surprises ignited the fire of learning in the students on their very first day.
G1 and G2 children went happily to the theatre while the students from G3 to G10 assembled in the gym. Ms. Maxine Lu, General Principal of the Xiehe Education Group, Co-acting Principals Ms. Sunny Huang and Dr. Adam Neufield, and Vice Principal Leo Ge delivered a speech to the students and convey their heartfelt best wishes for the new school year.
Aeronautics in China has undergone rapid development, coinciding with the rise of scientific standards in China, and great breakthroughs have been made in 2020. This year, China launched the fiftieth Beidou Satellite successfully and the networking of the No. 3 Beidou System was completed in every corner of the world. It is being used by more than 120 countries. No matter what area the students want to achieve, they need to lay the foundations and exercise their courage to conquer difficulties. In the new school year, students should set realistic, achievable goals and make logical progress, step by step.
We also invited the mother of Tommy Xu from 4B, a researcher of COMAC, to introduce aviation knowledge to the children. With the development of times, the gaze of science has been transferred from Earth to space.
After returning to the classroom, each student received a handwritten new school year message from individual teachers and a blank card. They wrote “For me: A year from now” on the card, which will be kept by the homeroom teacher, and then returned to the children when school starts next year. We believe this time-traveling card can engage students’ thinking, just like a jewel full of memories.
